Take an annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) walk with the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania at Beechwood Farms Wildlife Sanctuary at Fox Chapel.
The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on February 13th.

FCAAE classes available
Registration for the FCAAE (Fox Chapel Area Adult Education) courses for the winter semester 2021 is possible.
More than 30 courses are offered online, including arts, foreign languages, social media, and yoga.
Zoom courses are a chance for students to learn a skill and ask questions from local experts.
Established in 1963, the FCAAE is a Fox Chapel Area School District contact program dedicated to providing adult enrichment courses at low tuition fees.
Courses are offered for one night and several weeks.

Virtual Ellis Island Tour on tap
The Cooper-Siegel Community Library will host a remote version of their Adventures in the Burgh on January 22nd.

Fox Chapel area Pre-K continues
The Fox Chapel Area School District is continuing its preschool program for the 2021-2022 school year. This is the third year of the program held at Kerr Elementary and open to students turning 4 on or before September 1st.
The sessions take place on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and have 20 students in one class.
Transport is not provided.
Families must meet certain eligibility requirements, which are available at fcasd.edu.
Enhance your Microsoft skills
Residents interested in learning more about Microsoft apps and skills for Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Windows 10 can visit mikeswindowstraining.com for a list of the free courses that retiree Mike Smialek is offering.
Classes take place on Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
With WebEx as an online sharing platform, students need access to the Internet, Windows 10, Microsoft Office 365 software or similar, as well as a desktop or laptop computer.
Each class includes a step-by-step handout and the files required to complete the online exercises together. The schedule includes:
• Excel Advanced on January 21st and Excel formulas and functions on January 28th.
• Excel Macros on February 4th, Word Basics on February 11th, Word Intermediate on February 18th, and Word Advanced on February 25th.
• PowerPoint Basics on March 11th, PowerPoint Intermediate on March 18th and Windows 10 on March 25th.
Snow angel used
Aspinwall Neighbors puts together a team of Snow Angels to help people in need clear their sidewalks or driveways.
The volunteer option is available to Aspinwall residents aged 13 and over. Likewise, anyone who needs help can request it by emailing [email protected]

Catholic school as an open day
The Catholic Academy Christ the Divine Teacher in Aspinwall will have an open house on January 30th from 2pm to 4pm. Reservations are required to comply with social distancing guidelines. The school is on Brilliant Avenue.

Grab-and-Go STEAM activities available
STEAM activities for children can be enjoyed on Thursdays at the Cooper-Siegel Community Library in Fox Chapel.
The staff will put together everything it takes to run a STEAM project for students in K-5.
Topics are snow dough January 21st and swing paper plate snowman January 28th.
Activities are available while supplies last.

Women’s Board fashion show on tap
The Women’s Board of Pittsburgh will be hosting its virtual fundraiser on January 28-29.
The proceeds will go to the Children’s Center & Shelter in Greater Pittsburgh and the Neighborhood Academy’s Middle School Boys program.
The fundraiser includes a fashion show by Carabella of Oakmont and a cooking demonstration by Bill Fuller, the chef at Burrito. There will be an auction and raffle.

Trib journalism scholarships available
Trib Total Media is accepting applications for both the Media Diversity Scholarship and the Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship.
The Media Diversity Scholarship is open to high school seniors who are culturally, ethnically, or racially diverse and who plan to study journalism, communication, or English writing at a four-year college or university.
The scholarship includes financial assistance of up to $ 7,500 per year for four years, a guaranteed annual internship with Trib Total Media, and an offer of full-time post-graduate employment.
The Jim Borden Memorial Scholarship is offered to high school students or undergraduate students who are attending, or planning to attend, a four-year college or university to study journalism, English writing, or communication. Recipient will receive up to $ 30,000 in scholarship money, awarded in annual installments of up to $ 7,500, an annual internship with Trib Total Media, and an offer of full-time post-graduate employment.

The application deadline is January 31st.
