STC chosen as a nationwide finalist for the pre-apprenticeship grownup training scholarship

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Savannah Technical College (STC) adult education participated in the Rethink Adult Education Challenge, a $ 750,000 competition to promote pre-apprenticeship training. STC Adult Education has made it to the finals as one of just two in Georgia and one of 95 national finalists in the finals from a number of industries including manufacturing, healthcare and technology.

As a finalist, STC Adult Education will have access to digital resources – such as case studies, activities and webinars with subject matter experts – to help develop their detailed proposal for an apprentice preparation program. In this challenge, the grand winner will receive $ 250,000 and up to five runners-up will receive a minimum of $ 100,000 each.

The STC Adult Education Program has risen to this challenge to bridge the gap between student knowledge and skills and manufacturing knowledge and skills in the Georgian coastal region. The integrated New Road to Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship program prepares non-traditional adults better for apprenticeships and career opportunities in manufacturing by teaching them English and math, safety, critical thinking and practical skills in the workplace. This will connect students with the college’s existing registered apprenticeship programs with regional employers and new apprenticeship programs, and qualify them for vacancies with regional manufacturers.

Savannah Tech’s adult education program is aimed at those who need to improve their basic reading, writing and math skills, improve their spoken and written English, practice the GED® test for high school equivalence, and are embarking on college need to prepare. The instructors also help students prepare for the science and social sciences tests for GED® tests. STC teaches adult education courses mornings, afternoons, evenings, and online. They are offered in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham, and Liberty Counties with multiple locations in each parish.

Adult education courses for HSE and GED®-Prep are currently free for all US citizens. To sign up for free HSE prep courses, call 912.443.5446 or visit For information on GED® tests, visit to register for the test, or to learn more about our test locations.
